Twice Blessed !

Meet Elizabeth !

From Far Point Collie Rescue

Elizabeth has joined our family on Sunday, July 11

she joins our Sheltie Ruby who came to us almost four weeks ago.

Both are with us at the store every day.

Meet Ruby ! – Sue is Smiling Again !

Here’s the Rubester !

She is four years old and is from the wonderful folks at

http://www.ncsr-md.org

Northern Chesapeake Sheltie Rescue and especially her Foster Parents, Gerrie and Dave who last week had seven Sheltie’s running around. These are great people. Ruby is wonderful !   We’ve had her a week and she loves being in the shop with us.  She’s a little shy about meeting the customers (only when Dad says OK).  Now Mom’s got someone to brush again.   This is a great little dog!

Ruby loves to run up and down stairs and follow the Dad around everywhere.  Loves to play ball in the house, in the store and in the yard.

Thanks for this blessing !

If A Dog Was the Teacher

If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be
pure ecstasy.
When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing
and pout…run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently

Still Looking

As our readers & visitors know we lost out beloved Katie, (that’s her with momma Susan in the picture)  a few months ago.  Life has been a real drag since.   But things are looking up,  we saw a very nice doggie on a rescue site and they are arranging for a visit.  We’ll keep you posted.  It’s the first time Sue has smiled in months.

I’m putting a link into a great newsletter from Mike Mifflin of the Greater Illinois Collie Rescue.  Mike writes a great column called “Herd it at the Water Bowl”.  Read it, it will make you smile.  It shows what great dogs these collies are.

Take care and thanks to all of you for your support.

Sad, Sad News

Mom and Junior

Our beloved Katie dog passed away suddenly last night.  One minute she was fine, barking her wonderful hello to Mom and Dad, going out, eating dinner, getting her slurps and taking her usual after dinner nappie.  Fifteen minutes later she was gone.  No crys, no wimpers.  She was the love of our lives, the reason we loved each day.   Katie would usually wake Dad up about 2 AM saying”, Hey Dad…are you sleeping ?”  ” I think I have to go…”  So we went, it was part of the bargain.  Her love for my sleep.   Very well worth it.   But Katie was Mom’s girl.   She knew she could herd Mom into doing anything.   Snacks unlimited !    Mom loved to take her out in the morning and brush her until her beautiful golden coat glowed in the sun.  Katie’s fav was Cherrioes.  Mom would be in the kitchen in the morning and just crinkle the cereal box and Katie would wake up in an instant from a sound sleep.  Then it was “Hey Mom…I’m your doggie”      Katie loved to Woof,  everyone in the neighborhood knew when Katie was outside.  She loved to say hello to everyone.   She didn’t chase cats, squirrels or birds, she had and got respect.   It was her domain.

We got Katie when she was two from a rescue foster family.  Her original name was “Prancer”,  because when she walked she pranced along.  She was a beautiful dog.  She had a history of medicial problems but it was love at first sight, we weren’t perfect either.  Everyday with her was a good day,  she made us smile, she made us laugh.  She was our love, our glue, our family for six wonderful years.  I just wish they could have been sixty.   It’s real hard times now,  Mom and I will miss her.  You always wish you could have done more, taken her her for more walks, taken her to work more, cooked her another bone.  She gave us all the love she had, all the happiness and joy she could share with us.  We’ll miss her so very much.

Pope John Paul II:
‘Animals Possess A Soul’
Pope John Paul II declared in a public audience
in 1990 that “also the animals possess a soul and
men must love and feel solidarity with our smaller brethren”.
He said, too, that they are the “fruit of the creative
action of the Holy Spirit and merit respect,” and are
as near to God as men are.”

The Pope went on to say that, “animals have the breath
of life and were given it by God. In this respect, man
created by the hand of God is identical with all living
creatures. … The existence therefore of all living creatures
depends on the living spirit/breath of God that not only
creates but also sustains and renews the face of the earth.”

“Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit,
you would stay out and your dog would go in.”
Mark Twain

If I have any beliefs about immortality,
it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven,
and very, very few persons.
James Thurber

“If there are no dogs in Heaven,
then when I die I want to go
where they went.”
Will Rogers, 1897-1935

“You think dogs will not be in heaven?

I tell you, they will be there long before any of us.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

Once a dog has entwined himself round your heart
he is not only yours for life, but you are his.
When he is gone, his place is forever sacred.
Other dogs are just as precious
but they all have their allotted spot in your
affections kept for them or their memory.
A heaven without one’s dogs
would not be the heaven we hoped for.
A dog is always man’s best friend.

Looking towards the Fall

We spent a day off visiting local Pennsylvania wineries located in Chester, Delaware and Lancaster counties.  We hope to offer one of the local wineries fine wines in our store this fall.  We found a real winner.  The Kreutz Creek winery had the best wines we tasted out of six wineries.  Real nice people too.  We can highly recommend their Stainless Steel Aged Chardonnay, Proprietor’s Red and a wonderful Ruby “K” Port.  Their web address is http://www.kreutzcreekvineyards.com/index.html
Tell them we recommended them, we would love to carry their wines
We attended the New York Gourmet Food Show in early July and we’re reviewing the products (especially the chocolate !) for our store & web.  We’ll be offering many of the show’s award winners.   We want to offer you a variety of reasonably priced gourmet treats that you won’t find elsewhere.   We plan to have these products available in late August and early September and will be offering several styles and price ranges for gift baskets and just oneizes for you to enjoy featuring the best of the show products.  This includes coffees, teas, oil & vinegars, salts and spices, chocolates, snacks, nuts, more chocolates.
Sources include Blue Bay Crab company, Williamsburg Peanut shop, Boston Tea company, Scharffen Berger cholocates and many more.  Our shop is in Paoli Shopping center at the intersection of Lancaster Ave (Route 30) and Route 252.  We’re about 5 miles from King of Prussia Mall or 4 miles from Newtown Square.  See what we’re all about at our web site http://www.amerheritage.com .  Thanks !
