Because all of Rowe Pottery
products are handmade, you will not find the consistency of
machine made, production-line products. The size and shape of a
piece will vary and the individual decorator who creates your
piece will influence the pattern. Throwing ridges created by the
potter's hand as it turns on the wheel, brown flashings created
in the kiln where two pots "kiss" each other all add to the
character and uniqueness of your particular piece. These are
inherent traits of salt glaze stoneware and make each piece a
joy for you and generations to come.
Early Americans cherished
their stoneware for its durability in oven and hearth. Crocks,
jars and jugs had to withstand daily use and perform equally
well in extreme hot and cold temperatures. Today we enjoy
authentic salt glaze for the same reasons. It's 100% food safe
and use it in the oven, microwave and is dishwasher safe.
Rowe Pottery is handmade
with pride just like it was 150 years ago. |
Vegetable Keeper
Crock
The
2015 Historical Vegetable
Keeper Crock again focuses on the Farm to Table movement.... The idea of growing
our own vegetables, storing them As vegetables were harvested from the
garden, they were often stored in pottery crocks. Our 2 gallon lidded crock is
hand turned then holes are cut into the base of the crock for airflow. This
unique design will keep your potatoes, carrots, onions or other root vegetables
at their freshest during storage

Yelloware Covered Bowl
The
2015 Historical Yelloware Bowl keeps with our tradition of adding a new yelloware
piece each year. When searching for this year's unique yelloware
piece we came across the covered bowl. This was a rare form created
in yelloware, but we thought it was a perfectly useful kitchen
piece. The bowl shape deep bowl shape and the domed lid make it
unique in shape but perfect for a side dish or favorite casserole.
The piece is oven, microwave and dishwasher safe

The
Sterlizia Vase
-
The vase reflects a European
influence and as tradition has it, when families gathered, each
clan would bring flowers and food as a way of paying homage to
the family name. The food was eaten at the celebration. But
flowers implied a sense of renewal and blending of the clans
into one family unit. The head of each clan took the flowers and
with great ceremony, put them into a large vessel similar to our
Sterlizia Vase.
